ASRock, a leading global motherboard manufacturer, has recently announced a new BIOS update for its 600/700-series motherboards. This update is set to provide a significant performance boost for Intel’s 14th Gen Non-K CPUs, offering up to a 10% uplift.
The 14th Gen Non-K CPUs, released earlier this year, were designed to cater to both high-end and budget consumers. These chips have a Thermal Design Power (TDP) set to 65W at their base power limit, which results in lower performance compared to the fully unlocked “K” chips that operate at higher TDPs in an unconstrained CPU package.

The new BIOS update from ASRock benefits from the latest microcode and includes a feature that further enhances the performance of these chips. The update allows the disabling of the CurrentExcursion Power (CEP), removing some power limitations on certain Intel 14th Gen CPUs.

The following Z790 motherboards are now available with the latest BIOS, with additional 700 & 600 series motherboards to be updated shortly:

With CEP disabled, the Intel 14th Gen CPUs can benefit from higher performance as they are no longer limited by their current excursion power limits. Certain chips such as the Core i7-14700 offer a +10% boost. This is particularly beneficial for budget users looking for better tuning and performance options on mainstream B760/B660 motherboards, which are some of the more popular board choices on the market.
This performance boost is a significant development for users of Intel’s 14th Gen Non-K CPUs. It demonstrates ASRock’s commitment to continually improving the performance of its products and providing value to its customers. The new BIOS update is a welcome development for users seeking to maximize the performance of their systems.
SImply put, ASRock’s new BIOS update for its 600/700-series motherboards offers a substantial performance boost for Intel’s 14th Gen Non-K CPUs. By leveraging the latest microcode and enabling the disabling of the CEP, ASRock has provided a pathway for users to extract more performance from their CPUs. This development underscores the dynamic nature of the tech industry, where continual updates and improvements are the norm.
