Samsung, the South Korean tech giant, has commenced the rollout of its latest security update to its cutting-edge foldable smartphones in the United States, further bolstering the devices' defenses against potential vulnerabilities.

The March 2024 security patch, which addresses over four dozen security flaws identified in the previous software versions, is now being distributed to the Galaxy Z Fold 4, Galaxy Z Fold 5, Galaxy Z Flip 4, and Galaxy Z Flip 5 models across various carriers in the country.

For the Galaxy Z Fold 4, the carrier-locked variant on Metro PCS and T-Mobile networks is receiving the update with firmware version F936USQS4EXBD. The factory-unlocked model, compatible with Comcast, Metro PCS, T-Mobile, and Xfinity Mobile, is being updated with firmware F936U1UES4EXBD.

The newer Galaxy Z Fold 5 is also benefiting from the enhanced security measures. The carrier-locked version, with firmware F946USQS2BXBF, is rolling out on Comcast and Xfinity Mobile networks, while the unlocked model, bearing firmware F946U1UES2BXBE, is available on AT&T, Cricket, Metro PCS, T-Mobile, and US Cellular.

Samsung's commitment to fortifying the security of its foldable lineup extends to the Galaxy Z Flip series as well. The carrier-locked Galaxy Z Flip 4 is receiving the update with firmware F721USQS4EXBD on AT&T and DISH networks, while the carrier-locked Galaxy Z Flip 5 is being updated with firmware F731USQS2BXBE on Metro PCS and T-Mobile.

While the updates primarily focus on addressing security vulnerabilities, they do not introduce new features or performance enhancements. However, Samsung is expected to release the One UI 6.1 update for the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Fold 5 in the near future, which will bring a host of new features and improvements.

The One UI 6.1 update is anticipated to introduce Galaxy AI features to the Galaxy Z Fold 5, while the Galaxy Z Fold 4 will receive non-AI enhancements. Users can look forward to exploring the comprehensive list of new features in Samsung's in-depth video once the update becomes available.

To ensure their devices are up-to-date and protected against potential security threats, Samsung encourages Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip owners in the United States to check for the latest update. This can be done by navigating to the Software Update section within the Settings app and tapping "Download and install."

Alternatively, tech-savvy users can opt to manually flash the appropriate firmware file from Samsung's database using the Odin tool on a Windows computer, a process that requires a certain level of expertise.

As cybersecurity concerns continue to escalate in the digital age, Samsung's proactive approach to addressing vulnerabilities through regular security updates underscores the company's commitment to safeguarding its users' data and devices. By prioritizing security and staying vigilant against potential threats, Samsung aims to provide its customers with a safe and reliable mobile experience.
