LG K3 (2017) Review: A Budget Smartphone for Everyday Use

Brand: LG Posted on: December 17, 2023

LG K3 (2017) is the modified version of its predecessor, K3. While it doesn't boast the biggest battery life or the fastest processor in the market, it is still a suitable smartphone if you prefer basic performance and affordability over some extra bells and whistles.

The phone is manufactured by LG, a leading brand in the telecommunications industry that is founded in South Korea. Despite being established back in 1947 as a chemical company, LG has emerged as one of the top producers of smartphones and other electronic devices. The K3 (2017) is not an exception to the high-quality standard devices that LG is known for.

The K3 (2017) device measures at 133.9 x 69.8 x 9.5 mm and weighs 132 grams, making it lightweight and compact enough to fit comfortably in one hand. It is designed with a single SIM slot (Micro-SIM) or a dual SIM feature (Micro-SIM, dual stand-by) for those who prefer having two separate numbers for personal and business use.

In terms of appearance, the K3 (2017) is available in a sleek black color, making it suitable for both business and casual use. Its body is crafted with durable materials to ensure it can withstand everyday wear and tear.

One of the main selling points of the K3 (2017) is its affordability, with a market price of around 90 EUR. This makes it an attractive option for budget-conscious consumers who are looking for a reliable smartphone without breaking the bank.

The phone has several communication options, including Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Wi-Fi Direct, and Bluetooth 4.1, A2DP, LE for seamless connectivity with other devices. It also has a micro USB 2.0 port for charging and data transfer. However, it does not come with NFC (Near Field Communication) technology, which allows easy and secure communication between devices by simply tapping them together.

The K3 (2017) also features a built-in FM radio and GPS, GLONASS for entertainment and navigation purposes. The phone also comes equipped with a loudspeaker and a standard 3.5mm headphone jack for those who prefer listening to music or audio without headphones.

On the rear of the device, there is a 5 MP single-camera with LED flash, which can capture decent photos and 720p videos at 30 frames per second. On the front, there is a 2 MP camera for selfies and video calls. While it may not have the best camera quality compared to higher-end smartphones, it is still a functional feature for those who occasionally take photos and video record.

Under the hood, the K3 (2017) has a Quad-core 1.1 GHz Cortex-A7 processor, and Adreno 304 GPU, running on a Qualcomm MSM8909 Snapdragon 210 (28 nm) chipset. It comes with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage, which can be expanded up to 32GB with a microSDHC card. The device is powered by a removable Li-Ion 2100 mAh battery that can last up to 500 hours on standby or up to 5 hours and 30 minutes of talk time on 3G network.

The phone runs on Android 6.0.1 (Marshmallow) operating system, providing users with a simple and easy-to-navigate interface. It also comes with pre-installed apps such as Gmail, Google Maps, Google Drive, YouTube, and more.

The K3 (2017) features a 4.5-inch IPS LCD screen with a resolution of 480 x 854 pixels, giving it a pixel density of 218 ppi (pixels per inch). While it may not be the highest resolution display in the market, it is still sufficient for everyday usage and provides decent visuals for browsing, watching videos, or playing games.

The phone supports 2G, 3G, and 4G LTE network technologies, allowing users to browse the internet and download content at faster speeds. It is compatible with GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications), HSPA (High-Speed Packet Access), and LTE (Long Term Evolution) network technologies.

Overall, the LG K3 (2017) is a budget-friendly smartphone that offers basic features for everyday use. Its simple design, decent camera capabilities, and reliable performance make it a suitable option for those looking for an affordable yet functional device. However, it may not be the best choice for heavy users or smartphone enthusiasts who require advanced features and high-end specifications. Nevertheless, for its price point, the K3 (2017) is a decent smartphone that provides value for money.
